I am using Windows on my computer. What hosting should I get? Windows or Linux?
The operating system you choose for your hosting does not depend in any way on the operating system installed on your computer. You should make the specific choice based on the functionality requirements of your site.
In case you choose Linux hosting, no unix systems administration knowledge is required to manage your package. Whether you choose a Windows package or a Linux package, you'll manage your package's services through the Plesk Panel GUI.
- More specifically, for most cases, Linux hosting provides better support for PHP/Perl/CGI/MySQL technologies.
- Also for PHP based applications like WordPress, Joomla, Prestashop, CS-Cart etc. it is preferable to be hosted on Linux hosting.
- Windows hosting is required if your application supports ASP/.NET/MSSQL/Access/frontpage technologies.
- A static html/flash/graphics site can be hosted on either Windows or Linux hosting.
