Wp-cron.php is disabled. What can I do instead?

WordPress uses a file called wp-cron.php as a virtual or scheduled task to automate things like checking for plugin updates (plugins, themes), sending email notifications, publishing articles at specific intervals, and more.

On a low traffic site, wp-cron.php enabled is not a problem, but when a site's visitors while navigating check them multiple times for scheduled tasks, then it becomes inefficient and leads to high server resource consumption and server lag the site, for this reason in our shared hosting packages we have disabled it.

In case you wish to carry out a Scheduled task and you are not given the possibility through the WordPress management environment, alternatively, you can create it through Plesk with the exact same result and without creating a high load on the server.

Follow the procedure described below.

1. Log in to Plesk

2. Select Domains

3. Click on the Domain Name where we are going to add the scheduled task.

4. Click on Scheduled Tasks.

Click on Add Task.

In the command enter /usr/bin/php /var/www/vhosts/mydomain.gr/httpdocs/wp-cron.php

Leave the rest of the fields as they are as they are not mandatory or fill them in according to your needs.
