How can I transfer an already installed Joomla?

The process of transferring an already installed Joomla is quite simple and can be done successfully if you follow the steps below.

1. File Transfer.

First, you need to upload your site files via an FTP program like FileZilla or Smart FTP, to your root folder.

2.Creating and importing data of your database.

In this step, you need to create the database in Plesk and import your database file stored on your computer.

3. Modify configuration.php file.

You need to modify the configuration.php file, which is located in the root folder and contains useful paths as well as database connection information. There, replace your old base login with the new one you created in step 2. The variables you need to modify are below and they are in order the database server, its username its Password and its name.

public $host = '';

public $user = '';

public $password = '';

public $db = '';

In the same file, modify the following variables with your domain and the correct path

public $log_path = 'C:Inetpubvhostsdomainhttpdocslogs';

public $tmp_path = 'C:Inetpubvhostsdomainhttpdocstmp';

and replace them with the following:

public $log_path = '/var/www/vhosts/domain/httpdocs/logs';

public $tmp_path = '/var/www/vhosts/domain/httpdocs/tmp';

NOTE: In case you have purchased Windows Hosting, you do not need to change the above paths other than changing your domain.

4. Create Email accounts

Create your email account(s) through Plesk. In case you want  to transfer your emails from another provider, follow the instructions described here.

5. Preview of your site (Sitepreview).

Make sure that your site after the transfer works correctly either by previewing it in your Plesk, or by modifying the Host file on your computer.

6.Declaration of nameservers.

Once you have completed the above steps, change your domain's name servers and declare the new ones sent in the hosting activation email with the subject "Web Hosting :: Management Information". In case you have registered your domain from Top.Host, register your nameservers through myTophost Panel and within 48 hours, your site and all its services will be online from Top.Host.
